crush episode 4

This week on The Crush, Whitney and Christina discuss speakeasy style Thai food in London, southern Italian wine, and the two try (once again) to find Whitney and Italian winemaker husband.  Whatcha got, Matteo (besides a charming Italian name).

a.  Thai food at Mama Irene’s in London (source) and the Lebanese wine Christina drank there- Chateau Musar.

And in Los Angeles’ Thai Town, Jitlada.

(not pictured) How to pronounce: aglianico. Check out DoBianchi’s Italian Grape Pronunciation series and see Whitney’s friend (and boss for the 2009 grape harvest) Bruno saying the word. Christina and Whitney spent time together in Campania, the region where this grape is found, riding scooters, attending a wedding and drinking tons of wine. Wanna see the video of that wild and crazy time?

b.  Find Whit an Italian Winemaker husband.  Matteo Inama (source)

c.  Foodie Moment:  The Trip starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon (source)

The wine the men were drinking in Episode 3 that Christina and Whitney so brilliantly recreated? Chablis.

d.  Wine of the Week:  2009 Occhipinti SP68 (blend of Nero d’Avola/Frappato)  (source)

In LA, you can buy the wine at: Domaine LA and Wine House. In NYC: Crush Wine & Spirits, Astor Wines, Chambers Street Wines. Retails in the low $20’s

e.  The lovely Arianna Occhipinti (source).

(not pictured)  Where in the World’ 1st clue:  Marsala.  It ain’t Christina’s grandma’s recipe, but this Chicken Marsala recipe from Gourmet looks delish.

(source)

Where in the World revealed:  Sicily!

And here’s some info about the regional cooking and wine of Sicily.

  1. I love, completely love everything Arianna Occhipinti does, she is such a strong and talented woman. I like all her wines, and her olive oil is just spectacular, too. Thanks for sharing this with your readers!

  2. They’re making The Trip into a movie, if I’m not mistaken. I saw the trailer a couple of weeks ago and it looks hilarious.
