joy the baker episode 8

This week on the Joy the Baker Podcast, Joy and Tracy  discuss how to properly shop for bikinis, how to make super easy banana ice cream, (oh!) and there’s big news about the Joy and Tracy retreat in Palm Springs.  A weekend in the desert with Joy and Tracy and a pool?  What could go wrong?  Check it.  Don’t wreck it.

(not pictured) Joy’s Mad Dash Sunday Morning Caramel Corn, by Paula Dean.

a.  Tracy’s favorite kitchen tool is an immersion blender.  She made Broccoli Cheddar Soup (come on, amazing!!) and Caesar Dressing!

b.  Joy’s favorite kitchen tool is her heat-proof spatula.  She makes everything with that dang spatula, including sweet and spicy Ginger Syrup.

c.  Tracy is showing off her garden.  She’s fancy.  She has a green thumb.  She really should share her tomatoes.  Gorgeous!!

(not pictured)  Some of Joy and Tracy’s other favorite things include Argan Oil and this sort of high class hair dryer.

(not pictured)  Joy’s friendship bracelet… she’s still working on it.

d.  Compost too, Tracy!?  You’re seriously a wonder woman.

e.  Joy’s hobbies include killing her summer garden (it’s totally not on purpose!!) and riding her bike along the beach.

f.  Most definitely Mos Def.  It’s complicated.  Sorry for the confusion, Tracy.

(not pictured) Terry Bike Gear!

Joy and Tracy’s retreat is the real deal!  We’re planning on hosting 35 to 40 people in Palm Springs this September 23-25.  What do you think about that?  Would you be interested in attending?  What sorts of fun things would you want to do?  Give us some details, and we’ll give you more details shortly!

YESH! I’ve been waiting for this ALL week…true story. Thanks for making my day brighter! I’d <3 going to your retreat…but I have bad news loves, I'll be in TX for a work conference. Could you move it a week early or later?! Pretty pretty please? I'd be completely grateful! Or maybe you could move it to the last weekend of this month since it's someone's 30th birthday! ;) too crazy soon I know, but I had to ask! All the same, I <3 u ladies! Have an awesome week!

  • Cindy July 7, 2011 at 7:31 am

Sooooooooo interested. You guys inspire me and would be so fun to hang out. Plus, I love to cook, I love wine and I LOVE Real Housewives.

  • anne July 7, 2011 at 8:01 am

Would absolutely LOVE to go to Palm Springs to hang out with you super cool ladies. Is it going to be a blogging/cooking/photo/being cool convention? Whatever it is, I am IN! This will help me in my quest for the dream job – I just said to my fiance this morning that I want to go to a blogging convention! How can we get details?

  • Mary Catherine July 7, 2011 at 8:22 am

INTERESTED in Palm Springs. (Not just because of the Bourbon.) (Maybe just because of the Bourbon.) I would go to that.

  • Episode #8 is live!!! › shutterbean July 7, 2011 at 8:53 am

[...] You won't want to miss it! Come check it out! [...]

  • Megan July 7, 2011 at 8:53 am

I want to come! How do we get to do this?!

  • anne July 7, 2011 at 9:19 am

Also, I’d like to learn some new baking tips, about blogging and finding your voice, about cooking – like recipes that I find in my favorite cookbooks but they look really hard – like what in the heck is braising? Also, I’d LOVE to learn more about wine. I know the basics from various trips to Napa and the Willamette Valley, but want to know more about how to choose wine, pair wine with food, etc… And maybe also go for bike rides.

  • Kathryn July 7, 2011 at 9:19 am

Oh man, I would love to go to Palm Springs but I have to work then :(

  • Jayme July 7, 2011 at 9:32 am

  • To Kiss the Cook July 7, 2011 at 9:37 am

Apart from just adoring both of you, Tracy- I share your tomato sickness. I have a 7×3 ft raised vegetable bed. In that bed, I have 11 tomato plants. 11. And what did I do Sunday? I tore out two winter green plants and planted a 12th. Out of hand.

  • cindy July 7, 2011 at 10:31 am

i want to go to palm spring! there will be eating and drinking and eating, right?

  • Christianne July 7, 2011 at 11:08 am

I would love to go, only problem is that I’m not at the legal drinking age down in the states yet. Plan one for next year, and I’ll be there.

  • Chelsea Powell July 7, 2011 at 11:51 am

I so wanna come to the Palm Springs conference. Looking forward to more info about it.

I want to eat. I want to drink. I want to craft. I want to cook. I want to meet lovely people.

I sound so selfish, but let’s just be honest, who wouldn’t want to do those things?

  • Rhyann July 7, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Your podcast is so entertaining! They always make my days brighter :) I think a retreat is an awesome idea. It would be so much fun to cook and talk and laugh with a fun group of women

  • Katherine July 7, 2011 at 1:28 pm

    Hey J & T!

I would LOVE/I am able to come to Palm Springs! SHOTTY!

  • Ellie@fitforthesoul July 7, 2011 at 1:29 pm

it would be great to know how to shop for bikinis for sure! Haha, so not good at that :P

  • Emily | Nomnivorous July 7, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I would LOVE to come to Palm Springs. Like CRAZY. It would be dreamy.
I will fly over the US for this retreat. Please? :)
    xoxo
    Emily

  • Kristy July 7, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Palm Springs would be so much fun! In Girl Scout camp, we made ice cream by rolling a bunch of coffee tins back and forth. You should totally do that.

  • Kasey July 7, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Palm Springs you say? You’re getting fancy on me. You give provide more info asap and I’ll make it!

  • Kelsey July 7, 2011 at 2:06 pm

Exciting! I’d love to hop over to Palm Springs for some cooking and baking, blog talk about writing and getting the word out about a blog, beauty product and fashion chatting, photography talk, and some drinking and pool sitting.

  • Libby July 7, 2011 at 2:19 pm

Holy heavens would I be interested in a retreat. Wine, tasty goodies, nighttime skipping since it will be so warm out?! Oh yes, yes please.

  • Jenna July 7, 2011 at 2:30 pm

A retreat! Yes! That’s awesome… I can only imagine the late night giggling.

  • adam lowell July 7, 2011 at 2:40 pm

i love that Tracy mentioned the T3 Featherweight! that blowdryer is a dream…
love to hear non hairdressers talk about hairdresser things.

  • Rachel July 7, 2011 at 3:07 pm

Yes, please. Palm Springs or bust. I would like to talk about the role of social media and “like my page” competitions / product giveaways, but not in the traditional sense of how to engage a social media audience and win followers. I would like instead to direct those topics toward their psychological impact on a blogger. The instant gratification of gaining a wide social media network versus the slow build of a genuine audience who likes you for your content and not your contests.

  • manda July 7, 2011 at 3:08 pm

umm yessss who wouldn’t want to go to palm springs?! :)

  • Alli July 7, 2011 at 3:31 pm

I would love to attend the retreat. Fun! XOXO

  • Celina July 7, 2011 at 3:46 pm

SO interested in going to Palm Springs and it is on my anniversary weekend and my husband knows what a big fan I am so he shouldn’t mind. Also have a timeshare out there so I have somewhere to stay for free! Crafts, food, and drinks, who could want for more! Can’t wait for more info.

  • AJ July 7, 2011 at 3:51 pm

I would LOVE to go to the Palm Springs conference. Who would not is the better question? Keep us posted on what’s happening next!

  • Anika July 7, 2011 at 4:31 pm

I would absolutely LOVE to participate in the Palm Springs shindig!! Would there be room for a vegetarian non-drinker who is freakishly tall? Just out of curiosity. : ) Can’t wait to hear the specifics!!

  • kelly July 7, 2011 at 4:45 pm

Love this idea. Sooooo want to be there!!!! Can’t wait for pod9 to find out more details. Love you both <3

  • Vicki July 7, 2011 at 4:50 pm

Wow! So great to hear about your upcoming retreat in Palm Springs. I would definitely LOVE to go and am available then! Can’t wait to read more details about it. BTW, I follow your blog religiously. It’s really one of the best food blogs out there. Really. Keep it up, Joy!

  • Molly July 7, 2011 at 4:52 pm

I want in!!! I would love to go to a retreat in palm springs! I want to learn more about taking pictures of food and spontaneous baking! It would be awesome to hang out with cool people that are interested in the same things as I am. I love to drink prosecco and whiskey. YAY!

  • Rachel July 7, 2011 at 5:26 pm

The conference sounds really fun! I’d love to attend. Don’t know if I could for sure, but it sounds great! I would love to drink wine and cook and bake. I’d love to learn some tricks for substituting while baking.

  • Katie July 7, 2011 at 6:59 pm

Yes, yes, yes. Palm springs. I have an irrational fear of airplanes but would totally get on one for this.

  • Andrea July 7, 2011 at 7:48 pm

I am so down for Palm Springs – if only I didn’t have to work that weekend!! Please tell me there will be more in the future?

  • Leslie July 7, 2011 at 7:51 pm

Hello! Yes! I am seriously interested in attending. I even checked plane tickets today! I would love to learn more about the basics of taking a good food/craft photo. I just want to meet some other people and have a fun time together!

  • Cassandra La Bella July 7, 2011 at 8:50 pm

I will mos def be going to the conference.

  • Jessica July 7, 2011 at 8:50 pm

The International [I can't believe this is a conference] Conference is actually real life!?!?!

Best news I’ve heard all summer!!!

Holy Cow is this AWESOME! So there!!

But for realz – I would really like to learn some of your food photography tips and trick as wells as learn how you edit your pictures! I know you have talked about it on the podcast, but it is much different to actually have someone show it to you. I think it would be super cool to make some of your classic/most popular/favorite goodies/meals/crafts. Making your food is one thing, but making your food w/ you is quite another :) I would also love to tackle foods that scare people, things that have lots of steps, like cinnamon rolls.

It would be super great to meet new people from across the country who all share two things in common, a love for Joy the Baker and Shutterbean. New memories and new friends, does it get any better than that?

This podcast makes my week and you two are soooo not annoying :D Thanks for sharing a bit of your life with us everyday!

  • Joy July 7, 2011 at 11:34 pm

Would love to attend…even live sort of close. But I doubt I could afford it.

  • Michelle July 8, 2011 at 12:17 am

I’d love to go to a convention in Palm Springs…do you need to have a blog in order to go? And pricing of course…

Love you guys! Love the podcast!

  • roxy July 8, 2011 at 12:39 am

Loved the podcast this week…cooper’s intro was so darn cutie pie!

P.s. Almost drove off the road listening to Tracy’s imitation of Oprah!

  • ginny lee July 8, 2011 at 2:31 am

would love to go, but probably a little too far to travel. could you have the next conference in Austin?

  • Strawberry Coffee Cake « Baking Boy Bait July 8, 2011 at 6:37 am

[...] Baker had a great looking recipe for coffee cake with a strawberry layer, so while listening to her podcast with Tracy from Shutterbean, I whipped up some of this scrumptious coffee [...]

  • Julie @SavvyEats July 8, 2011 at 7:05 am

I listened to this podcast while biking (only one headphone though!) in my Terry brand shorts. Awesome.

I would lovvvvvve to come in September. You know, if flights from Ithaca, NY don’t cost an arm and a leg.

  • amanda July 8, 2011 at 7:48 am

The Good Lord willin’ and the rivers don’t rise (umm….is that how the saying goes???) I am so there! Palm Springs 2011′! Woo woo! Way better than spring break…which I never attended because I was too busy being a huge dork. You ladies rock my socks! (annnnnnnd- I am still a HUGE dork : ) Seriously, keep the hits coming and thank you for suggesting a glass of wine before busting into a bikini this summer- you are so wise.

  • amanda July 8, 2011 at 7:49 am

Also- The 26th is my THIRTIETH birthday (gasp) so- present to myself- Holla!

  • Katherine July 8, 2011 at 9:21 am

that conference retreat will be awesome and important and groovy. get that shiz going!

  • Andrea July 8, 2011 at 9:40 am

Palm springs with you girls sounds awesome!!! Maybe you can introduce me to bourbon-you talking about it makes me want some so bad! Ha! Love you girls!

  • Heather E July 8, 2011 at 9:42 am

I’m definitely interested in the conference. I’d love to work on food photography (very beginning level) and maybe talk about starting food blogs and food-related businesses.

Oh, and there better be bourbon and nachos, as you promised! :) So excited!

  • Courtney R July 8, 2011 at 10:09 am

Shut. Up. Palm Springs? With Joy AND Tracy? Wow! I would just love to crowd a bunch of foodies into one kitchen and let the powdered sugar, bourbon, and giggles float around us! Okay, so that’s super cheesy, but that’s my food trip fantasy. Also, Some intro food photography lessons would be fantastic. I have much improving to do.

  • Nikki.rae July 8, 2011 at 10:43 am

I just listened to the Mos Def portion 4 times in a row. Awesome. I think I snorted myself. :) Keep up the ridiculousness and randomness. Love it.

  • Amanda Celeste July 8, 2011 at 10:48 am

I would LOVE that! It would be great to do craft stuff with the two of you and learn all kinds of new tips!

  • Jenna Marie July 8, 2011 at 12:35 pm

    Um, YES!

one question– what if more than 35-40 people want to come? Will you make them fight each other in a giant battle with foam swords and lances?

  • Steph July 8, 2011 at 12:50 pm

That’s my (29th) birthday weekend! I wish I could go but a plane ticket from boston to palm springs is a bit over my budget. :(
    Love listening to you guys!

  • Julie (Bananas for Bourbon) July 8, 2011 at 1:01 pm

A house in palm springs with like-minded food and other randomness peeps? My heart is skipping several beats. I might need to take myself to the hospital here! Can we bake things and can Tracey give us some jam and preserving tips? Can we make friendship bracelets for each other? I’m seriously geeking out here just thinking about it. And apparently we’ll need to rent Star Wars. Just sayin’. And PS: I was right there with Tracey. I totally thought you were saying most definitely and were just being mysterious. ;) Love you gals!

  • Shannon July 8, 2011 at 2:16 pm

    YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOO excited!!!!

  • Glo July 8, 2011 at 2:23 pm

You need to have a conference on the Big Island. I can picture you giving your demos on the beach surrounded by lucious pinapples and mangoes! Looking forward to your next podcast gem!

  • Lizzie July 8, 2011 at 3:06 pm

Oh please yes I want to go to your conference. Especially if I can call it something super official-sounding so my boss will think I’m being all professional: like the International Symposium on Modern Cultural Meta-Awareness and Dextrous Artisanship. Which I think is smarty-talk for watching TV and making friendship bracelets.

  • Jeanne July 8, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Palm Springs – Yes!! I want to drink strawberry vodka, work on photography, and eat food. Let’s make some of that Sunday morning caramel corn!

  • Amanda Barkey July 8, 2011 at 5:47 pm

if i could only come to your conference it would MAKE MY LIFE…i could come, i would come. I think this conference retreat is awesome AND important and this needs to happen. First of all, i check both of your blogs every day and love love love them, second of all i also love your podcast and it just makes my day to listen to it SO to spend time with you gals would be just TOPS. Also, i have a one year old and a two year old. both boys. and a husband. and i need to get away and drink bourbon, make/eat good food, watch/take about housewives and learn new things from YOU! do it. seriously. ps- you are the opposite of annoying. wink. ;)

  • Abby July 8, 2011 at 6:08 pm

oh. my. GAWD. can i please? can YOU please? i… can’t even form words. i am 100% sure that i wouldn’t be able to come because i wouldn’t have enough money but… i think you should TOTALLY do it.

i think if i went i’d probably cry a lot. and hug you both. lots of hugging.

baking/vegging/eating/baking/crafting/tv watching/baking/drinking/drinking/baking. in that order. get on it!

  • Billie Murphy July 8, 2011 at 9:05 pm

um. shut the front door. palm springs sounds off the hook fun!

  • Zoe July 9, 2011 at 6:37 am

Palm Spings funness!! If I can’t go, you guys should come to the East Bay (just a little jaunt for you Tracy and kick it with me and E). We could pretend it was Palm Springs…eat, drink too much…maybe dance around the yard. I think it would be splendid.

  • Desiree July 9, 2011 at 6:43 pm

    Tracy, Joy, I love you.

  • Zoe July 9, 2011 at 7:55 pm

So ladies…discussion completed…we want in. Palm Springs all the way…give us deets and we’d be there. With bells on. Fo sho.

  • Kim July 9, 2011 at 9:58 pm

Hi ladies, thank you for making me laugh! I think it’s fate b/c I have that Palm Springs weekend free AND I’d love to go!

  • Lucia July 10, 2011 at 8:37 am

Oh Joy. Oh Tracy. Coming to Palm Springs. Learning something about food photography. Getting advices about how to blog on my own blog. Baking. Talking. Laughing. It would be a dream. A DREAM! I live in Italy, so it will probably be a dream non coming true. So sad :-( If you want to organise another conference here in Italy, well, I’d lend you my house. Yes, of course I would. Think about it, for the future :-)

  • Karen July 10, 2011 at 9:40 am

Is it bad that I thought Mos Def also meant most definitely? I am so not hip at all!

  • Victoria July 10, 2011 at 12:30 pm

I listened to the podcast in a groggy state this morning and totally did the same thing as Tracy – although I knew who Mos Def was beforehand, I totally thought you were saying ‘Most def’!

I would love to come to Palm Springs – I could totally add a touch of the international to proceedings (as I hail from London) and then I could look up old friends in LA – new and old friends, baking, blogging and bourbon – sounds like a winning formula to me!

  • Zoe July 10, 2011 at 1:05 pm

Oh…and Erik really wants to come too. Not sure if this is a chick thing only (which would also be dope) – but he is a graphic design guru of sorts – he could come in handy and give a little workshop on identity design, web and blog platforms, photo manipulation for beginners, and how to jazz up your social media platforms etc…

Nothing like using a man for his skills.

He is also a huge fan of nail fashion, Mos Def and food…and can hang with the girls like nobody can.

    -Z

  • Katie Brennan July 10, 2011 at 2:33 pm

REALLY want to go to the retreat. For thoughts, maybe you guys could do a mini “clinic” (since this is an “educational” retreat!) on a post from start to finish. Also, anybody up for a little tie dying and puff painting? Anybody? (mixed in with the drinking and real housewife watching of course!)

  • Lauren July 10, 2011 at 9:28 pm

I am interested. It is important. And exciting. Cooking, eating, and drinking is enough entertainment for me!

  • Jenny July 10, 2011 at 10:45 pm

Love your podcasts. You two are soo funny!!

  • Katie July 11, 2011 at 7:09 am

Totes! Mos def would dig your fancy pants weekend!

  • Marie July 11, 2011 at 8:00 am

Definitely into coming to Palm Springs!!!! JTB conference sounds sweeetttt!

  • Amanda July 11, 2011 at 8:00 am

I would totally come to this. I love your podcast and it would be great to be around like minded peeps!

  • Shauna July 11, 2011 at 11:35 am

This Palm Springs retreat sounds so intriguing! I can’t wait to hear more about it.

  • Jen Huntington July 11, 2011 at 11:38 am

I wish more than anything that I could go to this, but I have a wedding in NC that weekend. I love the idea and hope hope hope that you will do another one real soon. You are so talented and creative, I’m sure this is going to be an amazing event. You could and you should totally start a business doing fun weekends like this all the time! If you do it….people will come! I will be one of them! I’ll bring the bourbon!

  • Jenny July 11, 2011 at 11:51 am

LOVE the podcast. LOVE the idea of Palm Springs!!

  • MorselShop July 11, 2011 at 12:44 pm

    Love, love, love the podcasts!
Joy, we may have to tussle over Mighty Mos – I’ve been crushing on him since the Black Star days. <3 him!

  • JenMarie July 11, 2011 at 1:01 pm

Awesome news on the cookbook! You rock girl.
    Mos Def.

  • Ashleigh July 11, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Count me in on PS! We should have a bike ride for those of us that want to lug our bikes along. It would be a great chance to see a collection of cute biking attire.

  • Rocio Alvarado July 11, 2011 at 3:30 pm

I want to conference!!! SO exciting. Mos Def ;) hahaha

  • Court July 11, 2011 at 3:37 pm

yes. to all the above. I would seriously fly from Texas to go to Palm Springs.

  • Liz July 12, 2011 at 10:20 am

Oh oh, me, me, I’ll come. I will! Joy, can you do a bit about biking? Do you know how to change a flat? Maybe a class on that? And Tracy, you should do a gardening bit, maybe? But mostly cocktails and cookies. Yes, best thing ever!

  • sarah July 12, 2011 at 11:36 am

h i i i i i ! from me and ben! so happy you guys were able to come for 4th of july! um, on july 3rd. ok! you went to CHURCH before coming over?! you’re amazing. as was the popkorn. and the vodka. (we didnt follow the directions…we were supposed to strain it?! i drank it straight from the jar.)
oh, and my favorite word from this podcast: “chilly-killies”

  • Chelsea July 12, 2011 at 12:04 pm

Ah I need to go to this conference-type-thing!! So excited that it is actually happening! You both have the best podcast ever, and I would love to go!! I would want to just bake and relax and have fun! I am that crazy girl that posts all of her pictures of joy the baker recipes up on your facebook wall of my double crusted lattice top blueberry blackberry pie, the apple tarte tatin, etc. It would be such an honor to actually bake with you guys and people that love you both just as much as I do! So fun! :)

  • Amy Elizabeth July 12, 2011 at 4:01 pm

I would absolutely love love love to hang out with you gals in Palm Springs! I actually live out in the area so it would be easy to make it out there. Drinking bourbon, talking about food, sweet goodies, and arts and crafts would be a wonderful staycation! Can’t wait to hear more about it.

  • Emily G. July 13, 2011 at 12:39 pm

Shut up!!! So totally into this… I vote for beach combing and making dreamcatchers with our finds while watching John Hughes movies. I wonder if my sewing machine would pass as a carry-on… September is a great month for starting those knitting and crocheting projects, too. Maybe we can squeeze in a lesson on punctuation… No?.. ok… ;) Lurve!

  • Kiera July 13, 2011 at 4:34 pm

So excited for the cookbook! Where will it retail?? Fun podcast ladies :)

  • Vicky July 13, 2011 at 5:59 pm

I would love to come as well (I’m a total lurker on food blogs, but it would be awesome to learn more baking and such), but it’ll sort of depend on my budgeting and such since I live in the Midwest.

I do have a cooking question for you and Tracy. I’ve been wondering this for sometime now: When is the right time to add garlic in a dish? I noticed that if I’m cooking something over medium/high and I put the garlic in at the beginning the flavor is either bitter or not there at all.

  • Kate July 13, 2011 at 8:30 pm

I would definitely come down from Vancouver for this retreat – sounds fun! Although I’m not really interested in blogging sessions – I’d rather spend time cooking, baking, eating, drinking and relaxing. More fun, less business!

  • Maggie @ A Bitchin' Kitchen July 13, 2011 at 9:03 pm

Ummm, I am THERE. That sounds super awesome.

  • Irma July 14, 2011 at 5:48 am

Most def I’d love to go! (:-P) But I can’t, I live in the other side of the pond. I’d love to go to learn about food photography and maybe I could teach you something about real Spanish food.

Anyhoo, have fun girls, take a lot of pics and tell us everything abou it!

    Love the podcast!

  • Paola July 14, 2011 at 11:20 am

Would LOVE to attend and learn about the blogging world and transitioning into it.

  • Amber July 14, 2011 at 1:49 pm

I’d wanna go. How much would it cost? How do you sign up?

  • Alexis July 14, 2011 at 2:02 pm

I think we should all bring some type of infused vodka and your choice of drink to mix with. Put it on a table, experiment, and drink!!!! Then KARAOKE!!! YUP!!!

I would LOVE to come. But I’m in London, UK :-( How about a ‘Joy the Baker comes to Europe’ conference at some point soon?

  • Beca July 15, 2011 at 10:25 am

I was totally with Tracy on the secret crush confusion. I was like, “why is Tracy being so vague about her crush, why won’t she just say his name?” Hilarious! Love you listen to you girls while I’m in the kitchen, make me happy and giggly and stuff.

  • Emily July 17, 2011 at 1:57 am

I would probably fly from Australia to attend :o

  • Tiffany July 17, 2011 at 4:27 am

Your whitty and bubbly personalities remind me of my sister! I moved to France away from my family and friends 3 months ago, and listening to your podcast makes me feel like I have a little bit of home with me. Thank You! AND love both of your websites. This might seem sick, but have gone back through all the posts! Love em! Keep it up ladies.

I’m soooooo INTERESTED in Palm Springs!!!!

I might come all the way from Israel for that!!!

  • Jessica July 17, 2011 at 1:54 pm

Your podcasts are the best! And I also leave them on for my dog when I’m not home and they keep her calm, which makes me think she loves them too.

  • Michelle July 18, 2011 at 1:41 pm

I think the good times retreat sounds awesome and Palm Springs is only a few hours away from me, nifty :-) I think a fun craft-y activty would be since there’s probably going to be a lot of food, to make those weaved construction paper place mats! I remember in school we always made them for the holiday party when we had food, could be good times I think :-) By the way, absolutely LOVE the podcasts! You guys are seriously awesome, Mos Def :-)

  • Vanessa July 18, 2011 at 8:29 pm

If I can find a flight from Charlotte to Palms Springs for a reasonable price, I’m there. I’m all about cocktails, friendship bracelets and yummy food with you fabulous ladies! :-)

  • Anne July 18, 2011 at 10:07 pm

I’m interested in your conference, but I’m sure it’s probably overly full with people now. Not prob. maybe you guys can do another one next year or something? It sounds like the best idea ever. Palm Springs, food, fashion, people cooking and taking pictures… If I were able to go I’d totally be interested in learning how to alter recipes so that I can incorporate my own ideas into them. But really, just hanging out with people who love what I love and who have infectiously hilarious personalities would be all that I need. =)

  • KarenS July 20, 2011 at 7:27 pm

In my Dreams Zzzzzz – I get to attend said conference and hang out with lots of awesome peeps (as in people, not those cute looking lolly things you have over there – though I’m sure they would be fun to hang out with) doing lots of crafy, cooking, photographising type activities. I like what Anne just said in the last post about learning how to make you’re own recipes – that sounds very cool.

Reality – I live in Australia.

*sigh* reality is a real bummer sometimes.

  • Julie July 20, 2011 at 11:17 pm

I just moved back to the area from North Carolina so I’m IN! I’d love to learn to make some of the harder recipes, entertaining, eating for one (what do I make?!), having fun, and being awesome like you two!

  • Amber July 21, 2011 at 10:42 am

I am very interested in attending the girls weekend aka conference. When can we get more info, such as price and sign up info?

  • Sonnet July 22, 2011 at 5:18 pm

I would love to come to this! It would be great to connect with other female bloggers and talk about food while having fun! Looking forward to more details soon! :)

  • rachel July 27, 2011 at 12:38 pm

I am so there! For serious. Things I would be interested in: bourbon cocktails, real housewives jeopardy, friendship bracelet swaps (can we bring back the lanyard while we’re at it? i used to have mad lanyard skills), a seminar on baking for boys, general awesomeness.

Also, I totally thought Joy said “mos def” as an abbreviation for “most definitely” at first too. Don’t worry Tracy. That was confusing.

  • Terri Sue July 27, 2011 at 3:48 pm

tracy, i am sorry but i just got over to shutterbean today. i know, shame on me. i’ve been listening since the beginning, and just now? anyway i loved your site but it brought up a question i have always wanted to ask. at joy’s site you can subscribe to her blog by email…………but there are so many blogs you can’t, such as yours. i don’t have facebook. i don’t have twitter. if it doesn’t show up in my email i just forget about it. so what i want to know, (i’m completely ignorant on such things)
is does it cost a lot more or why don’t more bloggers offer it. when i have thoroughly searched a blog i want to subscribe to and just get down to the very bottom and it says……subscribe posts atom i want to scream. so please answer this. whats the deal?
    sincerely,
    terri sue

I am very excited about your conference! I would love to go. I’d like to learn different baking techniques for adapting recipes to be gluten free or vegan or whole wheat.

  • Ali August 9, 2011 at 4:42 pm

I would love, so much, to go to your retreat! I am fascinated, not in a creepy way, with the two of you!

  • Jillian August 10, 2011 at 10:15 am

If you ever have one on the east coast I would be soooo in. It sounds wonderful.

  • midnightagenda August 18, 2011 at 8:34 am

    chilaquiles.
fried tortilla strips with eggs and salsa. and lots of cheese. yum.

  • Jenny September 13, 2011 at 11:39 am

What kind of immersion blender do you use Tracy? I am in the market for once but keep reading reviews on how these things have such a short life span.

  • Emily September 28, 2011 at 8:00 am

I also thought Joy said “mos def” as in most definitely and was just being coy about the person’s actual name. But I’m not exactly up on my celebrities. :)

joy, as if I couldn’t like you anymore ~ your favorite movie is a Hitchcock movie!

  • Lauren April 13, 2012 at 7:14 am

hi Joy and Tracy. love your podcast. Have been catching up the past couple of weeks by listening at work. You girls are crazy and hilarious and completly inspiring. I was listening to the intro to this episode so intently because Cooper sounds so adorable that it actually scared the bejeezus out of me when the theme music faded in. Momentary heart palpitations. I thought you guys would appreciate that. take care!

    Lauren
