Hello friends!

Thank you for joining us for another Joy the Baker Podcast!  This time on the new Homefries.com!  Phew!

This week:

•  Tracy and I wax on (and on and on) about hot dogs.

•  What’s your favorite road-trip diner meal?  Whatever it is, the mugs better be THICK.

•  Remember the Sony Sport Walkman?

• Commit to the middle finger, especially when in the back seat of a station wagon.

• One Smart Fellow by Aunty June.  Was there alcohol involved?

• Tracy and I are working on our road trip playlists for you.  In the meantime:  Joy’s Rainy Drive Spotify Playlist and Joy’s June Tunes.

• Listener Anna is on her way to Salt Lake City!  Leave a comment below if you’re in the area!  Let’s make new friends!

    Love the new look!

  2. Mckenzie Jul 14, 2014

    Love you guys so much!

  3. I was so happy to see a new episode for my drive home today. You ladies are great, and the site looks fantastic!

Oh, and I’d like two biscuits with jam and a side of bacon at the diner! 😉

  4. Jenna Jul 14, 2014

The new site looks great! Awesome to have a new podcast to listen to too. I think I went through a similar musical phase to Tracy when I was a teenager, lots of Silverchair (“make room for the preeeey, ’cause I’m coming in, with what I wanna saaaaay” ugh… haha).

  5. Hi Anna! I live in Salt Lake City. And Tracy, that was neat to hear your brother went to school at the U…I went to school there as well and then worked there for another seven years after that. Anna, I’m guessing by “small business school in Salt Lake City” you mean LDS Business College. If that’s it you’re probably living in the downtown area. If you’ve arrived, I hope you’re enjoying it so far! The farmers market in Pioneer Park on Saturday mornings is a lot of fun…there’s a concert series in that same park on Thursday nights as well, but they’re super crowded and can be a little overwhelming. We have some fun restaurants, too, and I love the downtown library. Welcome! Let me know if you have any questions or want to talk.

  6. Oh my gosh guys, I love the new site! Well played!
Also loved the hotdog talk – in Australia we have a similar obsession with the ‘sausage sizzle’, $2 at Bunnings (like Home Depot) to raise money for whatever local soccer team and probably the best meal in town. Super crispy sausages, onions, ‘killer’ (ketchup) and mustard on fresh white bread. Please and thank you.
    Lots of love xx

  7. Loved this podcast! I had to cover my mouth (at work) to hide my giggles. And potato salad on a hotdog? Genious! #showmeyourweiners

    I love PM Dawn!!

Oh Joy, I hope you’re in Chicago before October 4! If so, get a Chicago dog at Hot Dougs. (They’re closing forever after that…wahhh)

Yes! You must try Chicago dogs!

        • Andrea Aug 7, 2014

I’m a new listener and Love the Podcast, you two are hilarious. I also live in Chicago and the opportunities for a good hot dog are endless. When you were talking about the Chicago dog on the show one thing that was left out is that a typical Chicago style hot dog also has sport peppers on it, which I think would be right up your alley. If you are looking for a totally Chicago experience check out The Wiener Circle!

  10. The new Homefries rocks!

Also – Tracy and Joy, you two never fail to crack me up.
You should definitely check out the movie, The Way Way Back. Great soundtrack, I’m obsessed with it this Summer.. And the movie’s got one of those old school station wagons/Sam Rockwell! So it’s pretty win win.

Anna! Welcome to Salt Lake! I work downtown and live in Orem. Good luck starting school! Let me know if you want to chat or meet up!

  12. Wow! The new site looks great! Congrats!

On the topic of hot dogs, I have hosted a few hot dog bar parties. It is a super easy way to “dress up” your dogs! I grill up a bunch of hot dogs, then lay out a the toppings for a few varieties:

Classic: Ketchup, mustard, onions, relish, etc.
Chicago: Green relish, sport peppers, onions, tomato, pickle and celery salt (poppy seed bun!)
Cuban: Ham, swiss cheese, mustard, pickle slices
Banh Mi: Cucumber slices, carrot slivers, sweet Sriracha mayo (Sriracha mixed w/ mayo and sugar), mint leaves

Super easy for a quick party and has always been a great hit! Kids get the classic combos and the adults get a delicious twist. Anyone have any other ideas for a new take?

  13. Elyse Jul 16, 2014

Love the idea of setting up meet ups for Joy and Tracy fans! Anyone around in Sydney, Australia?

  14. Roxanna Jul 17, 2014

Is it just me or is the podcast no longer downloadable through this website?

    • That’s a good point. We weren’t sure if anyone actually downloaded the file from this site (instead of just streaming). We can look into adding that functionality back in. Thanks.

      • Roxanna Jul 18, 2014

Oh, please do! I don’t use itunes and used to download directly from this site.into my mp3 player and listen to the podcast when I’m cooking/cleaning/out and about. I would be entirely grateful! Thank you!

        • Ok. We will look into adding that back. Thanks.

          • Emily Jul 23, 2014

Yes, please! I have a droid, and thus do not have itunes, and no wireless in my office. It’s a sad, but true, story.

  15. I think we should have a NOLA meetup for local fans, so we can welcome Joy to the city!

  16. Love the new look!!!

First things first YES to Chicago style hot dogs!

And… you have to have a party play list.

    3. Who? – The Brian Jonestown Massacre
    4. I Got a Man – Positive K

    10. Infinity Guitars – Sleigh Bells

Diner Meal: Grilled Cheese with a pickle & Iced Tea

  17. Rachel Jul 21, 2014

Hot dog with BBQ sauce and cole slaw. Get into it!

  18. The redesign looks great! Also, I going to dig into those playlists right away. I love listening to you guys so much, thanks for another fun podcast!

  19. Oh! I’m thinking a person could make a hot dog flight! Maybe using cocktail weiners (although, admittedly, these are probably too miniaturised)? Why is there not a hot dog version of sliders?

  20. tracy Jul 22, 2014

Love the new site, congratulations!! There used to be an option to download the podcast directly from the site (instead of going into iTunes). Is this still an option?

  21. OMG! Tracy is so freaking good at naming playlists. I immediately felt the need to go back to my Spotify and step my game up.

  22. Nicole Jul 22, 2014

Welp. Looks like I’ll be having hot dogs for dinner tonight.

  23. Oh boy. Well, first, my favorite diner food is a grilled blueberry muffin with scrambled eggs and a great home fries situation.

Have you guys played around with the nostalgia machine? http://thenostalgiamachine.com/ That would be a way to find a lot of good playlist songs!

    Any Maine listeners?

You guys are the best, and the redesign is great!

  24. I made this playlist last winter and it is amazing for driving – all 90’s, all the time :)

  25. Sarah Jul 22, 2014

Hi Anna! I live in Salt Lake City, too! It’s a fun city, I hope you like it!

  26. Jaclyn Michelle Jul 22, 2014

Hey ladies, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask my question but I’m going to put it here anyway. Whateva. I love your podcast. I probably listen to it more than I listen to music and that’s sayin somethin. You guys feel like friends and save me from feeling lonely some days. I love what you do and I’d like some advice. I’m a sophomore at college in Chicago. I attend a normal university but I have a great passion for cooking and have been thinking about going to culinary school instead. My parents greatly encourage it because they think I have a gift for cooking and baking. However, I also have a passion for writing and I’m wondering if I should stay in college and get a degree so I have a better chance of supporting myself when I graduate? I’ve also heard that culinary school and working in a restaurant is very intense to say the least. What do you think? It’s a really big decision and I’d like some advice from two great cooks such as yourselves. Thanks and I love y’all!

    Jaclyn Michelle

  27. Andria Jul 22, 2014

The redesign is AMAZING! Love it top to bottom. You did a super fantastic job.

  28. The new site looks so awesome, congrats! Thank you for all of the work you do to bring this special happy silliness into the world :)

Also. There can never be enough hot dog talk. My sweetheart and I are planning a fancy-pants black tie wedding in November…with hot dogs and tater tots for dinner. The heart wants what it wants!

  29. Jennie Ridley Jul 27, 2014

Ohmygah. The playlist convo?! Amazing. Can’t wait to hear what you two put together!!

  30. Becky Aug 5, 2014

I’m not in salt lake but good luck Anna! I’m in the Chicago suburbs if anyone wants to be my Joy Baker buddy!
