This week on the Joy the Baker Podcast, Joy and Tracy talk gift giving.  Yep.  We’re in the full holiday swing.  There’s just no denying it!  Let’s talk about who to give what this year.  Yes… there’s booze involved.  There always is.

And!  Since Oprah has retired her Favorite Things from television, Joy and Tracy and picking up her slack here.  There are far less screaming women though… like none, really.  Phew.

1.  Tracy’s magic Hope in a Jar.

2.  Moroccan Oil hair treatment.  Fancy treats!

3.  Joy thinks make-up brushes are totes snazzy.

4.  It smells like Christmas at Tracy’s house thanks to Meyer’s Soy Candles.

5.  Joy is obsessed with Truffle Salt.  It makes popcorn and scrambled eggs taste real fancy.

6.  Because every girl can dream.  Le Creuset Pots.

7.  Tracy goes for the Truffle Oil.

8.  Fancy aged balsamic vinegar.  Worth every penny!

There’s also Nathan’s gift guide with stainless steel ice cubes!

Tracy’s Christmas tree is just so lovely!

I love when a lady can enjoy a cold beer in a hot shower.  Mega Tracy!!

Also.. keep an eye out for Your Fashion Story Football edition.  It’s helping me through the next two months… for sure.

Thank you for listening!  We’re so glad you’re here!

    Tracy,
You should totally get your Mom some remote headphones for Christmas. I love mine and I wear mine to listen to the Home Fries podcast while I do chores around the hou. I plug the headphone receiver (is that what it’s called?)into the computer, turn on the headphones and walk around the house listening. It’s fabulous!

    Love your show! Happy Holidays.

Ah, another awesome podcast ladies, Love that reference to Me, Myself and Everyone we know at the very end.. such a cute movie. I’ll definitely be checking out some of those favourite things on your list too.. Ah.. Le Creuset pots.. one can dream…

  • Jennifer December 8, 2011 at 9:01 am

I would never give my boss a gift. If I won’t add them as a friend on facebook, I don’t feel they deserve a gift. Am I a jerk?

I keep my list simple…family-not even friends. Then I do a White Elephant party, where I can regift or Goodwill it up.

  • Lisa [With Style and Grace] December 8, 2011 at 9:12 am

you two are all sorts of awesome. seriously. love the gift ideas, esp the truffle salt [on popcorn, i'm addicted], and the oprah voice – hilarious! happy holidays you two ~ cheers!

the beer in the shower thing is making me laugh so much

  • Ciara December 8, 2011 at 10:19 am

I’m pretty sure one of my favorite things about these podcasts are the last few seconds during which you guys keep trying to have the last word and the music plays and you say silly things…..also the rest of the podcasts are great too obviously, but i’m a fan of the somewhat awkward ends, just like real life talks! :)

  • Maggie @ A Bitchin' Kitchen December 8, 2011 at 1:33 pm

Hahaha…please tell me that was a “Me and You and Everyone We Know” reference at the end? That “back and forth” scene was brilliant.

I love all your favorite things, especially the Le Creuset! If my hinting has worked, I should be getting one of their French Ovens in about two weeks!

  • Kathryn December 8, 2011 at 8:20 pm

I love you guys! Definitely playing this podcast (again) while the bf is in the room in hopes he gets gift ideas!

In regards to cold weather and small planes – it’s actually easier to fly in cold weather. The air is thinner and so planes take off easier and you don’t have to use as much fuel to keep the plane up. Plus, the engine keeps you a bit warm (though every time we go flying in a Cessna I make sure to bring a sweater because I’m ALWAYS feezing!).

    Tracy, Oregon says hi!
Joy, I was living in Seattle most recently and every time I walked by the factory o’ cheesecake, I thought of you!

    • Joy the Baker December 8, 2011 at 8:47 pm

i love how much you know about small planes! that’s awesome. do you like how i just totally make up garbage plane knowledge? hahahaa… bonkers.
oooh the old cheese factory. thanks for thinking of me! … i think.

Your chats are delightful. :) I always thought mail carriers weren’t allowed to accept cash gifts because they are government employees. Maybe I’m wrong and my mail carriers have been sadly neglected!

  • Jennifer December 9, 2011 at 8:51 am

Another gift idea…is Bakerella’s Cake Pops Kit…great price, great idea and love her! http://www.amazon.com/Cake-Pops-Kit-Projects-Favorites/dp/1452102929 Bought one for my sister already!

  • gretta December 9, 2011 at 9:23 am

this podcast is getting me through finals. Another amazing one ladies!

  • Katie December 9, 2011 at 9:49 am

May I ask about the coconut oil in the shower? Tracy, I totally want to smell your hair now. Too weird?

  • Laura December 9, 2011 at 11:08 am

“back and forth, forever” is a favorite joke between my friends and i and i giggled SO HARD out loud at work just now listening to the end of your podcast.

someone used that quote (the whole quote *wink*) in the game of things (which is an awesome board game and would be a totally fun holiday gift, btw) about a year ago, and it just stuck. i wish everyone listening was in on the joke.

  • Kristen December 9, 2011 at 11:24 am

Psst! I totally found that exact same truffle oil at both Homegoods and TJmaxx for way way cheap. Awesome find! Love it!

  • Maria December 9, 2011 at 12:13 pm

Love the podcast! Just had to share: http://tinyurl.com/br9gruo

  • Maureen December 9, 2011 at 4:16 pm

Already love you two lovely ladies for keeping me laughing while at work, but the fact that four of the items on your favorite lists currently reside in my home? Too much awesomeness!!! I’ve had Hope for years, truffle salt is my secret ingredient, truffle oil and LeCreuset are gifts to my BFF for Christmas!

    Keep up the great work!!!

  • Kristen December 10, 2011 at 9:37 am

Hello lovely ladies! I am in dire need of the phone number to call and leave you a friendly message. :) Where might I be able to procure those digits? And if I should have been able to find it on my own I apologize. I promise I tried.

I adore my lavender salt, which I bought at a farmer’s market. Makes plain hard-boiled eggs super yum!

  • Tiffany December 11, 2011 at 7:41 pm

You both treat your bosses very well!! My limit is usually $10 max!

Also, I was hoping to see a Tracy/Oprah face in the show notes!

    Merry Christmas!

  • Jennifer December 11, 2011 at 10:04 pm

I hate peeling the tags off things when I’m giving them as a gift. I always black out the price though with a sharpie, or rip the price section off. I’m not sure why I leave the rest of the tag on . . .

  • Abby December 12, 2011 at 7:17 am

This was my first time tuning in … hilarious. Will be back. Fo shoe.

  • Katelyn December 12, 2011 at 8:52 am

Joy, I know you were joking (?) about the gifts made out of cat hair… however, I was just talking to a friend about how her family makes blankets out of their dogs’ hair (that they shed). Is this strange? I think so, but I don’t have pets.

  • Amanda December 12, 2011 at 12:34 pm

So I was catching up on my back episodes as I made Christmas candy yesterday. (And let me tell you…listening to you guys while making rosettes is risky business! Laughter is not my friend whilst working around hot grease.) Anyway, I *think* I’m commenting on the right episode… I shrieked at the mention of My Buddy and Kid Sister. I thought I was the only person on the planet who remember those commericials and the song. I googled pics of them just now…My Buddy is a bit creepy looking in the eyes, but I’d still be thrilled if I got a Kid Sister.

Thank you for making me feel slightly less crazy. Or at least, less alone in my insanity.

  • Lindsay December 12, 2011 at 2:42 pm

Hey Joy & Tracy! Love your podcast, my coworker & I find ourselves cracking up in a super quiet office with awkward looks coming our way. It’s fantastic. Anywho, I have a gift related question…which I’m sure lot of us young ladies ponder…but here goes:

I’ve been dating my boyfriend for 7 months and his mom wanted to buy me Uggs for Xmas…(ok I have 3 pairs so I told my bf umm thanks but no thanks) so his parents are letting us pick a nice restaurant and go out for a date. Awesome. Question: What is the protocol for the girlfriend (me obvs.) buying my semi-new bf’s parents (most his Mom, let’s be real) a xmas gift? Note- his parent’s live across the country & have only met them twice but I almost feel obligated like it is the right thing to do. Any insight would be super duper helpful!

    • Tracy December 12, 2011 at 11:02 pm

Getting them something is the right thing to do!

Send them a thank you note and a box of really really nice chocolate! I think she’d be happy with that. (make sure she likes chocolate! as your bf)

  • Catherine December 14, 2011 at 10:31 am

Thanks so much for doing this podcast! I have been listening to it non-stop while I am sanding, filing and polishing, preparing for a holiday craft fair. Keep up the great podacasts!

  • Sarah December 14, 2011 at 6:02 pm

Hi lovely ladies…just wanted to speak up for the older generation…. I’m over 50 too and I ditched my archaic flip phone 3 years ago because I so coveted the gorgeous iPhone. I found it sooooo much EASIER to use due to super-intuitive programmIng. Never had to read a manual! And texting is way easy – you learn quickly how to get fast AND accurate with one pinkie!!!

  • lily January 1, 2012 at 6:35 pm

    LOVE YOU TRACY. you’re amazing.

  • sarah May 23, 2012 at 11:40 am

    HELLLLP!
I’m trying to revisit Nathans gift guide from WAAAY back (because it was AWESOME and Padre Day is sneaking up…) but I keep getting sent to a different spot when I click the link?!

Any new guift guides coming up? You guys always have such great ideas!
