A few things are true this week on the Joy the Baker Podcast: you should not egg the car of your boss (but maybe just fantasize about it a little) and we’re not sure if you should break up with your boyfriend (only you know what to do) (definitely don’t egg him).

It’s almost Mother’s Day!

To celebrate, Tracy is going to spend some quality time with her family, Tyler Florence (T-Flo episode here), and make Cooper paint only in blacks.  Happy Day to you Mama Tracy and Happy Mother’s Day to all you awesome mamas!  You deserve praise (and brunch).  Mother’s Day Brunch Ideas.

Oh!  Check out Tracy and Michael’s video!  Tracy is mom-ing bigtime.  It’s sweet.
Let’s talk about fashion.  First things first, Tracy and I are still trying to figure our fashion out too.  We’re not experts, but we’re here to help.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, if you need a revamp after a bummer break-up (sorry Emily), or if you need a new look for a new life phase (right on Audrey)… when it comes to shopping, try a personal shopper (the free kind)!
JCrew has complimentary Personal Stylists to help you work that body.
Let’s talk specifics.  I find a lot of fashion inspiration from fashion blogs.
I don’t run out and buy entire outfits based on these blogs, but I try to figure out how certain pieces could work in my life.    For example, I love these High Waisted Skinny Jeans worn by Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere.
Silk Trousers from Madewell are super comfortable, chic, and feel like classy-ass pajamas.

Bauble Bar has great accessories for pretty reasonable prices.  I mean… have you seen the JCrew prices for accessories!?  Bonkers.  I love these Emerald Gem Link Drops.  A lot.
Warby Parker (no L) has some really great, easy to manage, prescription and non-prescription sunglasses.  Frame that face!  Oh… and The Great Gatsby inspired collection?!  Just good.
Tracy wants to buy more and more striped Maxi Skirts so she has another reason to use the term MAXI SKIRT.

Have fun at your first blog conference, Winter!  Maybe you’ll meet you maj!!  This is Tracy and I, Day One… youth!

Now let’s just sit under the Jacaranda Tree in our folded over boxer shorts, and sports bras and talk about Jared Leto.  That sounds about right.

Thank you for listening!  We’re thankful you’re here!  Truly (madly, deeply) (don’t act like you don’t remember that song).

  1. Make sure you fold your boxers over enough so you can see your joe boxer underwear waistband cuz that’s how I rolled.

  2. TRACY, that video. omg your house is amazing (um, your office and garden!!!) and Cooper is super adorable! Love it.

  3. I’m dying. that video is adorable beyond words!

  4. In middle school, out of fear of constantly smelling after PE, I would rub the roller-ball sample of Clinique Happy underneath my armpits ‘secretly’ in class. It made my armpits burn, and I already had deodorant on. PARANOID.

This is so cute! Oh my, I don’t mean to come off as creepy, but I totally love your blog, Joy, and now I find out we are born in the same Month, and year I believe (1981). Not to mention, we both live in SoCal. Okay, I’ll stop now. You are awesome!

Oh…Clinque Happy…HOW I REMEMBER THEE!!! I was kind of obsessed with GAP’s DREAM & GRASS. Oof.

      • Also, Tommy Girl! But thankfully I had the sense to reserve the expensive stuff for my wrists and neck and not my pits.

Marshmallow stinkerbutt gets me every. time.

Joy if i met you in the real world..I’ll probably talk too quickly and sound spazzy or just totally freeze up! lol..enjoy you gals as always!

  7. Joy–I appreciated the spring drawer cleaning. I have to do the same thing. FYI–for those ladies doing a spring closet purge, H&M is accepting textiles for recycling. So those clothes that are not fit to donate–H&M will take them! Happy organizing!

    Love the show :)

  9. That video is so sweet!! I love the outtakes at the end, haha! Another great podcast ladies and loved the real talk from our awkward childhood including our questionable choices in clothing back in the day…What were we thinking?!…

    • Tracy May 10, 2013

I bet a lot of boys are gonna be wondering WTF was up with Bieber hair!! I can’t wait for that to happen.

  10. chocolate stinker butt… that was my favorite part Happy Mother’s Day Shutterbean!

  12. Alexis May 10, 2013

girls – i will say it again, listening to the podcast is the highlight of my week. I look forward to it. I loved getting to know you two met- so sweet.

Also wanted to point out about the personal stylist topic, i read another blog called “A Blog About Love” and Mara wrote about her J Crew personal stylist and gives tips. So other listeners can go check it out! :)

Thank you for listening!!! I’m off to check out that blog now.

  13. We have jacarandas in Australia too! There’s some sort of saying like, if you haven’t started studying for your exams when the jacarandas come into bloom then you’re screwed!

Also, my fave boxer shorts were my plaid ones with a drawing of the Mad Hatter on them. Yikes.

  14. LOVE that video, Tracy! Is it for a contest? Hope you win!

You mentioned a brand of jeans on the podcast that fit well and was not super expensive. I cannot remember the name of the brand. Can you please tell me so I can look them up? I really am interested in a new pair of cute jeans about now. That is bound to perk things up in the wardrobe department:)

  16. Oh man! You answered my question like rock stars! Thanks–I’m feeling a ton better (and pretty excited) about it especially after the advice of remembering that everyone is on the same human level and that I need to act like a regular person too. I can do that. And I can ask questions. And give high-fives.Totes going to say hi and high-five both of you if I see you (maybe not Tracy since she’ll be loitering..?).

P.S. When I was a kid, my dad thought it would be funny/clever to take a picture of me with every girl I met that had a season for a name. There were plenty of Summers and Autumns, but no picture of a Spring. I met a Spring once, but thought it would be awkward to request a photo from a complete stranger…

    • Hi Winter,

I completely understand where you’re coming from! I’m going to my first BlogHer Food conference next month too ! Guessing it’s the same one :)

When I originally registered I also wondered if I would be milling about all by myself, since I don’t have any friends attending the conference. I can get kind of shy in these types of scenarios. Plus, I still feel like a small fish in a big pond when it comes to blogging. Maybe it would be cool to meet up and not be so shy/intimidated together!?

      • Claudia! I would love that! Gosh, that will be nice to have a friend there already. I’m heading over to your blog to figure out how to email you.

I listen to your blog while I work (which is at a corporate office that is very quiet) and I had to pull out my headphones and stop listening during the thai-massage walker story because I was about to pee myself from laughter. I forced myself to read corporate memos until I could pull it together and I still had to wait until I got home to listen to the end of the walker thai massage – too funny! And it was the best part of my day!

  18. Audrey May 16, 2013

Thanks so much for answering my question ladies!!! The links are super helpful, and I especially love the silk pants idea. I’m so excited to go shopping!! Hope to run into yall in LA! (Also, any advice on fun bars/restaurants would be much appreciated :) ) Whooo!!!

  19. Jessie May 16, 2013

I’m having trouble with the podcast app not giving me the new episodes of your podcast only (so rude). It’s been happening for a few weeks now. Anyone else having this issue?

    • Jessie May 17, 2013

Update was successful today! Guess I just had to complain about it to get it fixed :)

Thai Massage in CA must be different than Thai Massage in PA. I have a high pain threshold so maybe I don’t remember that part but I loved it and wish more people offered it. I’ve been to a few different places & wore my own clothes every time. My yoga teacher mentioned that if he started offering it, he’d have to have scrubs for people who don’t listen to the advice to wear loose fitting clothing. And yes, you need to wear pants, since they lift your legs & stuff.

Since you are in CA, the best massage in the world is Watsu, which is shiatsu in the water and it is (was?) fairly prevalent in CA. It is a bit weird but if you can just go with it, it’s awesome. But Tracy you have to wear a bathing suit.

    • Tracy May 17, 2013

I have bruises on my body…nuff said. No bathing suit for me! NO WAY.
