This week on The Table Set, Greg, Andy, and Nathan talk summer picnics.  What to eat.  How to pack it.  Where to eat it.  And yes… Nathan has a cocktail suitcase.  Of course he does!

Listen up, yo!

Take a peek at Nathan’s NYC Governors Island picnic.

a.  Greg’s Handheld Tomato Tarts.

b.  Andy is totally obsessed with tempeh.  We love him for this.  Picnic Tempeh Salad Sandwich.

c.  Nathan made Pazanella Salad.  Picnic magic.

d.  Muffin tin brownies with Andy’s favorite Chocolate Hazelnut Spread.

Just because…

Jesus Juice
(Sometimes known as Rioja Libre, Black Vulture, Musolini, Moxto, VBK, or Korea – wiki)
serves 2

1 part dry red wine
1 part cola

Fill 2 rinsed styrofoam cups (reuse!) with ice. Pour wine to the halfway mark. Top with cola.
Cover with lid/straw and enjoy your incognito eurotrash treat!
Rose!!  It’s the drink of summer!!

The LATimes has a great article about sparkling Rose for summer.  Try NV Terres Dorées FRV 100 sparkling rosé available at Domaine LA. About $17.

In Spain, my roommates would always make calimocho (their drink of choice)… coke and red wine… awesome memories. I love your suggestion to reuse bottles and jars. I’m embarrassed of my growing collection (i can’t throw glass away), but proud of the fact I’ve only only used one box of ziploc bags in a whole year!
i’m talking my boyfriend into going to a movie at the cemetary this summer (he’s creeped out by the concept). thank you for getting me excited about enjoying summer and eating dinner outside.

Right on Lyndsay! OH, the cemetery isn’t creepy, he’ll see! Viva la glass! I only go through a box a year too. ;)

Thanks Karen! Keep listening – Many more exciting topics to come!

Hi, guys! I’m from LA, too – and I just started listening to the podcast! Or more specifically, I just finished. I blasted through all of your episodes while preparing for a picnic of my own, so I thought I’d reply to the picnic episode. My question for you: can you call it a picnic if you’re on folding tables at a Drive-In theater, or is that cheating?

I wanted to let the three of you know how much I enjoy your series, and how I’m looking forward to the next episode. Especially nice to hear mentions of little LA spots and sights that are beloved to me, as well. Viva los Angelenos!
