This week on We’re About to be Friends, Joy speaks with Shauna James Ahern of the immensly popular blog Gluten-Free Girl.  Shauna is a wife, mother, island dweller, belly laugher, food appreciator, former teacher, and beautiful writer.  She’s an appreciator of the world and it’s inspiring just to talk to her about writing, cookbooks, and monkey minds.  Listen up!

Shauna’s Gluten-Free Coffee Cake made from Thomas Keller’s new Gluten-Free Flour.

Shauna mentioned writing as ‘wild mind’ from Natalie Goldberg’s Writing to the Bones.

Shauna, Danny, and Lucy… just being a beautiful family in Washington.  No biggie.

Gluten-Free English Muffins.  Please and thank you!

Shauna talks about her love for Brene Brown.   One of my favorite Brene Brown talks is on vulnerability.

Joy talks about her 10 Real Life Blogging Tips.

Two lovely cookbooks. Gluten-Free Girl and Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef.

Shauna James Ahern can be found at glutenfreegirl.com and on twitter @glutenfreegirl.  Please be sure to say hello!

Thank you so much for doing this interview, Joy! I’m cooking/baking for 2 GFers in our home, and it’s all a paradigm shift.

I love this podcast. Shauna is so real and down-to-earth. I love the idea of not getting online until the kiddo is off to school. I feel like I need to incorporate that into my life so I can really just focus on the time my son and I are together in the mornings. Eating breakfast together would be so much more meaningful to him if I wasn’t also eating breakfast with the laptop, I think.
Thanks Joy and Shauna! You’re both fantastic!

Thank you for the early Christmas present!

Great job on these podcasts! It’s so fun to hear the stories of how the people of this community came to be. When is it your turn, Joy? I have been trying to think of who might make a great interviewer for you, perhaps Whitney? Just a thought.

Totally loved this podcast. Your best yet, Joy. And Shauna should do a podcast for Homefries because she is an awesome conversationalist! Also, loved the tidbit that Shauna married Brandon and Molly. How sweet is that!

Definitely my favorite episode yet! Now I kind of want to go live on an island in Puget Sound too…

Oh No! I just finished the last of the five podcasts I had hoarded to get me through marathon Christmas baking. What do I do?!? Oh wait, I have more Joy the Baker’s hoarded. Phew! All good now!

Seriously, after listening to five podcasts back to back (reference mammoth Christmas baking above) I am totally and completely in love with this. Listening to other people with sparkle and unicorns and monkey minds running around in their heads made me feel both better and laugh, so keep it up Joy. This is a good thing.
